  1. Nervous…because there are many classmates. I did not know how to say my emotions.
I think the other students’ poems have different stories with different feelings, but the same background.
I remember it was nice listening to my peers poems because they said what their feelings were and shared their emotions. Moreover, it was great to share their lovely stories and it was a chance to know who they were before i meet.
The poem exercise helps me remember. It is an opportunity to remind myself of my past life.

  2. I think my poem is simple and too straight forward, but it is the first time I write a poem in English, I try to add some rhyme in the poem and separate in two parts , one is first I came to Australia, second part is the changes after half year living in Australia. I selected this topic because I had a big change after I come to Australia. When I went back my home country in Christmas, my family was shocked because I changed a lot. I become more independent and I can do many things which I never do before I come to Australia. My mum said these changes are even more valuable than I get a degree in Australia. I think presenting poem is more interesting than presenting a speech because I don’t have to share my feeling directly. Audiences can guess what my feeling when I was writing the poem.I felt more confidence because I have expressed presenting to classmates through the semester. Also the poem is about myself, and as I know myself very well I could communicate with more confidence.
I can listen the other students’ story from poems because all peers have their own story. From listening the poems, I can feel their mood and what did they feel when they are writing the poems. For example, some students talk about their parents in the poems, it can influence my emotion directly because I have the same feeling with them. I learn how to create some senses in the poem to attract and influence the audiences.

  3. When listening to other classmates’ poems, I can find other styles and methods of making a poem or presenting poems. Poems with lots of rhyme words inspired me. The poems are clearer to listen and audiences will be more interested to listen. I enjoyed listening to them. Most of us are showing happiness when presenting our poems. I feel that I have more confidence and joy to speak in public. Practice makes perfect is true.

  4. This reflection illustrates the feeling of reading poem in week 10’s tutorial. As the poem reflects the decision of studying abroad, this would be similar as JJ’s. In JJ’s poem, it contains his efforts and improvements after he came to Australia to compare with his Hong Kong life. One of the elements in this poem is used by anaphora. It is close to Lakeesha’s poem. She used anaphora through her whole pome. Tommy’s poem was beautiful. The beauty builds images of his story in people’s mind which brings one to participate in his story visually. Their works are strongly inspiring audiences to have invisible interaction with their feeling. This poem not only contributed about self, but also comes some of improvements and self-development. The language devices are used as practicing of developing the transmitting skills. These skills are using simple and meaningful vocabulary in a short poem. When the poem was presented, the confidence was clarified. It results from the extent of comprehension on self.
I have learnt how to express my thoughts by words, and turn it into a poem. When I started to write it, I read some poems from famous poets. I noticed that a good poem do not have to be long. Therefore, I tried to find words to link together. It made me feel that I was a poet, and I created this poem. When I was presenting, I could felt my confidence, but it was a little bit mess up because I did not orally read it.

  5. When I listen other students’ poems I was very nervous . Because I felt that my poem was not well shaped. But I tried my best I never wright poem in my first language so it was very hard for me to wright poem in English and it has meaning too. In class, other students told about that how they are tried to learn new thing. In my poem I also told that I also tried to learn how to go ahead and archive my goal. My poem make me to do something as little butterfly fluttering her wings to fly in open sky as I am trying to fly in my in world to get success. After finish my poem I felt as I told my self that how I am trying to achieve my goal.

  6. Reading my poem out loud was vastly different from reading it to myself, in my head for many reasons. One of which being, tone and emotion. I was able to convey the tone and emotion of my poetry through reading it out loud by putting in appropriate pauses and enunciating certain words in a specific way to allow the audience to know ‘how to feel’ without only just listening to the content. Another reason included using the audience’s reaction to know if I need to speak up or slow down by observing their reactions as I read my poetry, which is not something I could’ve practiced whilst reading it on my own out loud or in my head.
I could relate to a lot of the other students’ poems, specifically the ones about travelling and how they felt arriving in a new country. Many of them said that it has allowed them to “come out of their shell” and become more ‘‘expressive” and true to themselves, which really inspired me. I compared their stories to mine, and took away a lot of positive aspects from their poems, which I would want to apply to my life. I learnt a lot about my peers such as how some of them seem to be more sensitive than I thought in terms of romanticizing their journeys and relationships, and others who may seem shy at first turned out to be quite brave and adventurous. What I learnt about myself while writing this poem was, how much I enjoyed trying to convey emotion through writing. I actually enjoyed reading this poem out loud, which was not something I was expecting. I prefer creatively expressing myself and sharing this creative work with others a lot more than merely presenting something about a topic we were assigned, which would make me a lot more anxious.

  7. While I was speaking my poem out-loud and listening to the other students poems, I felt that we were sharing our own stories, our characteristic and our dreams for future that we were going to work for. Although everyone had different topic in their poems, something inside was still the same. We all realized that we had a big difference or improvement before and after coming to Australia, either through behaviour or personality. And we hold an optimistic attitude to face our unknown future. While I was presenting my poem, I felt nervous but also a bit enjoyment. I like the moment that I presenting my work to audiences and let them understand my thoughts and personality. I want to know how they think and how they feel for my work. And this is the reason why I enjoy the moment although I was nervous while standing in front of the people. I know it is quite a conflicting emotion, but that is my characteristic and I am going to improve it in the future. Besides, some of us had mentioned an empty bottle, stars and waterfall in their poem which I think that inspired me a lot. In my point of view, these three items represent temporary situation, our dreams and our attitude. By listening how others use these things as a metaphor to describe themselves, it leads me relative to myself and my experience. It made me understand the emotion of the writer and how he felt at that moment as he or she had strike a chord for me. Moreover, I think it was an encouragement for me to know there might be someone also has the same situation and thoughts as me while I did not feel good.

  8. I realised that I still have areas for improvement. I found out that I could have used more language devices and literature skills in my poem that can make it sounds more interesting. Although I was still nervous in speaking publicly in Week 10, I found out I have made some improvements from the first class.
I felt nervous because I am not confident with my writing and other students presented very well which made me feel more nervous. Because when I am sitting in front of the one presenting, I get inspiration and light from them. I feel light from my peers. They told me something I do not know which was out of my expectation when I was listening to them. I learned something from my peers; I learned about different colours of life and so on.

  9. This was the first time ever in my entire life I have under taken such a gorgeous experiences with Michelle and my lovely classmates about writing a poem by ourselves. At first I thought my poem was so messy and a bit strange. Because I thought no one could understand the meaning of my poem. However, by being supported a lot by people around me, those whom I love very much, I have found out that the moment of sharing these poems with each other was so precious. My friends and I could share anything we’d love to think, to talk, and to create throughout a poem. For me, I did relate my true love, the man that I am looking for to an oak tree. It’s true love, AGAIN… But… I still shared that with my friends and we did have a really relaxing moment. More than this, I could see that my classmates were having many great ideas in their mind. They were something about a very pale thought or a very sweet, feminine and elegant dream… Especially, one of my peers talked about the power of a wing, a blossom flower. It really connected with me because I am totally agreed with that person and in some parts, I could also understand that spirit…!
After all, the time that we had together with poems was splendid!

  10. This is my first time to write the poem about overcome a challenge. I wrote it straight forward on my feelings. I didn’t know how to wrote it beautifully. I could relate the topic but not deeply. It make me want to read more famous poems and learn how to better to write a poem.
After listening the others poems, I discovered I can use the repetitions, metaphors, analogy that I haven’t used in my poem. They can put me in a situation that what they are feeling when they have challenges. I noticed that they have a good structure in the poem,. For instance, past , present , future. The whole activity makes me feel interested, excited and surprised. Everyone has a unique story on their own.

  11. Presenting poem is interesting work for me rather than academic speech. While academic one sometimes needs professional material, delivering of poem do not need that one. It is just made up of my value and view and this present my thinking and my emotions more free. I can feel free to get out of reading my poem. So, I speak more fluently than other academic speech.
Listening other students’ poem was easier to close than other persuasive speech that they have to argue. Before I listen to other students’ speaking of poems, I worried about length of poem and high levelled vocabulary to write my poem. However, other students’ poem is not too long because it is made up of metaphor, implication and connotation and delivered a message that they have felt. It was not too hard that I imagine. In addition, I was inspired and learnt from my class mate. Garf’s poem especially caught my heart because her poem’s story is really similar with my situation and she wrote well by using metaphors. I realized for the first time that other students and I have same problem and worries. I could sympathize with my class mate from this work.

  12. I know my classmate better after this activity because almost everyone’s poem is so personal that is inspired by their own experience and personality. After hearing poems have different element such as humor, joy and sadness. I think emotional it’s still the most effective way to make audiences relate themselves to the context. And I should read my poem in a lower and sad tone next time so that it can sound more emotional while we can’t use other media to deliver the messages, our voices is the only tool we can make use of. Also, the key of writing a good poem is consider the identity of the audience and include things that can relate to them. To sum up, tone, pathos and voice are the three things I should improve next time.

  13. It is fascinating to listen the poem of my peers as many different language deceives are being expressed beautifully in their poems. Metaphor can always heighten the expression or the pathos when the poem is being delivered. The anaphora used in the poem has increased its liveliness. The sense of humor used in the poem can made the audiences very engaging. Therefore, to me listening is one of the impart process for learning communication.
For my own poem, there is lack of language devices as I am not skillful in applying these devices. Thus, through this activity, I can lean to be a good listener and see the needs of my improvements in using language devices.

  14. The first time presenting my poem was felt happy, because it was first time written a poem and spoken out-loud to my friend and teacher. This poem is my experience of sharing myself and overcome lifestyle in Australia. I felt the positive poem using the anaphor to express past and present could be natural. Metaphor help illustrate the story with pathos emotion view. I like to use alliteration that could stress syllables word that there is meaning. The negative express is challenging to write a poem that is choosing the right word to describe your emotion feeling and logical. I find it hard when I read the story to have sad emotion feeling. But the outcome was balance emotion and strong melody rhythm. When listen to different one story, the poem does express our emotion feeling and share the story with different model. Someone say: mine was classic. There is muc

  16. I felt like I was telling a story to my friends for the first time and i am like reading a book, i felt distanced from myself.
The poem is writing about myself, I felt like I was revealing myself to the others – my true self.
After hearing my peers poem,i think that their poems are like beautiful – they are flowers trees butterflies,. But, mine is not. They have also provided a scene – a picture to tell us who they are. The thing i have learnt about myself is I think my thoughts are a bit direct. It’s about writing the poem. I would like to keep that about myself, but I would like to add a bit more, things like scene into my poem.
